COMBINING ASSESSMENTS TO MEET ORGANIZATIONAL NEEDS
NORTH OKANAGAN, BC CANADA

A tech company asked us to work with a team of programmers and their team leads to address issues and opportunities of team cohesiveness, competition, and performance. They had some personality conflicts within the teams, and it affected performance. After talking with senior leaders and developing a picture of the issues and opportunities, we used HPTI and TEIQue to give us a better picture of the difference and similarities in personality traits.

TEIQue results showed how employees managed relationships, communicated, and understood their feelings and emotions. HPTI gave results on six personality traits: conscientiousness, adjustment, curiosity, risk approach, ambiguity acceptance, and competitiveness. The combination of the two assessments suggested that communication between individuals and among teams was infrequent and insufficient. Team members tended to have lower adjustment (managing stress) results, suggesting that stress was high, and coping mechanisms were less than effective. In addition, competition among the programmers and the teams was high. These results provided the evidence to develop a customized team session to address and discuss these issues, and develop a series of processes and actions to address the problems and seize the opportunities.

The Human Resource department and the team leaders developed a plan with appropriate evaluation measures to ensure that the implementation was planned and assessed.

USING HPTI IN LEADERSHIP SELECTION & DEVELOPMENT
CENTRAL OKANAGAN, BC CANADA

An Okanagan real estate company wanted to use HPTI with their leadership team, and also as a recruitment and selection tool for new, external candidates. We completed individual assessments and discussed team results with the leaders. The senior team openly shared and discussed their individual results. They agreed to use HPTI for future recruitment in management positions, and found the results useful in concert with other recruiting and hiring processes.

USING HPTI IN TEAMS
WESTERN CANADA

A Human Resource team that coordinated and delivered training for a large utility organization wanted to use HPTI to enhance team performance and understanding. There was conflict within the team, and some differences in the approach to their role within the organization. Team members appreciated the one-on-one discussions of their results, and the team evaluation demonstrated satisfaction with the results of the HPTI and the facilitated team session.

HPTI FOR LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT & RECRUITMENT
CENTRAL OKANAGAN, BC CANADA

Dr Lynn Sparling, Professor, Okanagan College School of Business, approached Sage Transitions to conduct research with the executive directors and boards of not-for-profit organizations. Lynn was a participant in HPTI training, and was very interested in testing the HPTI individual and team reports with not-for-profit organizations in the Central Okanagan.

RESEARCH PROJECT

The research included an individual customized personality report based on their HPTI results as well as a debrief session conducted by OC professors and Sage Transitions consultants. This new knowledge will help these organizations develop innovative new program offerings for leaders of NPOs. Programs that better meet the needs of NPOs should improve the sustainability of these organizations.

FINAL RESEARCH REPORT CONCLUSION

Self-awareness of leadership traits has been proven to benefit individuals, leadership teams, and organizational performance in a variety of ways, including: stronger succession planning, leadership development, recruitment, and retention. Although not able to generalize about the population as a whole, our conducted research shows potential for the HPTI assessment to be used as a selection and retention tool in the voluntary sector.
